The Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D), at Israel's Ministry of Defense, is a globally recognized center of knowledge and expertise in the field of military technology. The DDR&D contributes to the development, production and maintenance of the tools and technology used by the IDF and the entire defense estalishment. Their work guarantees Israel's ability to protect its civilians and maintain its qualitative military edge.

A joint Ministry of Defense-IDF body, the DDR&D is operated by both civilians and military personnel. Its director is appointed by the  Minister of Defense, in coordination with the Chief of the General Staff and Ministry of Defense Director General. The director reports to the Director General on issues related to the responsibilities of the Ministry of Defense and to the IDF Chief of Staff on issues related to the military. This integration and cooperation produces exceptional results in defense research and development.

Responsiblities:

1. Develop innovative concepts for defense technology

2. Manage the ministry's short and long term development projects  

3. Serve as a professional, technical body for the research and development of military and defensive technology

4. Cooperate with international partners in the field of R&D

5. Train the defense establishment's next generation of outstanding  personnel and tech professionals

Israel's Missile Defense Organization (IMDO)

The IMDO is responsible for the R&D of active defense systems such as the Iron Dome, David's Sling, Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 weapon systems. IMDO works in cooperation with the American Missile Defense Agency (MDA), on joint ventures and the development of defense systems. Read More
